The product map below shows the three potential bio-chemical, cellulosic processing areas for Cosmo Specialty Fibers. We have proven volumes of C5/C6 sugars in our spent pulping liquor stream that can either be sold to downstream processors such as bio-chemical or ethanol companies or, Cosmo may enter into partnerships to enter the downstream markets directly. Acetic acid and methanol are available in commercial quantities from the mill’s red liquor evaporator condensate stream. Over four decades ago, the mill produced acetic acid and we now look to re-enter that market. Finally, Cosmo is exploring the potential of converting C02 emissions from the biomass/spent pulping liquor boilers into formic acid.
Successfully re-processing these product flows not only diversifies the mill’s revenue base, but also brings a significant environmental benefit in terms of reduced mill effluent and emission levels.
